This book is the record of observations and impressions of Achu, a 10-year-old boy in USA as he narrated them in short messages to his grandpa in India who remains a silent listener.
The stirrings of feelings right from those days when in his mother’s womb, thoughts, anxieties, opinions etc. he developed subsequently, mingled with his nostalgia for 350 years old illam where he was born, temples, ponds and sarppakavu nearby and the villages around are the reflected themes of his writings.
Achu dreams of India, its uniqueness of culture, values, rituals, traditions etc. He remembers the splendor of temple festivals with classical music, dance, other cultural events, pageant of decorated elephants, resonance of musical instruments, mesmerizing sounds of drums etc. which are unique to his motherland.
He equally cherishes and respects his foster motherland, USA, its system of education, freethinking, spirit of originality, adventure and developing self-confidence. These are inculcated in young minds from early school days to mould them into responsible world citizens.
